Environmentalist slams minister

BANGALORE: Renowned environmental activist Yellappa Reddy has decried the state government’s decision to oppose any move to nominate the Western Ghats natural heritage properties into the UNESCO list on the guise of development.Reacting sharply to the decision, Reddy felt that the government was doing injustice to the future generations by taking such a step.He said that the impact of continuous plundering of natural resources reflected in the form of drought or unprecedented floods.He recalled the recent incident of wild elephants foraying into Mysore city, and said: “This was the result of the so-called development intiniated by the government; it looks like we have not learnt our lesson.”
