Sauber team principal Monisha Kaltenborn is confident Esteban Gutierrez is capable of scoring his first points in Formula One for the Swiss squad by the end of the season.
The 22-year-old Gutierrez is yet to finish in the points and has an 11th-place finish as his best result in the season.
"Yes, I am sure about that. It has been a very tough season. The challenge to come into Formula One, and get used to this environment, is a big step in itself," Kaltenborn told Autosport.
Kaltenborn admitted that the lacklustre car has hindered both Gutierrez and Nico Hulkenberg performance in the season so far.
"Then of course if the car is not as competitive as we expected it to be, if you simply have bad luck then it is very tough on the driver. Kaltenborn explained. And that's where we need to make sure he keeps his motivation high and try to support him finding consistency," Kaltebborn said.
