SHIMOGA: A total of 117 birds of 11 different species were brought to Tyavarekoppa Lion and Tiger Safari in Shimoga recently. A hyena pair was also brought under the wildlife exchange programme between Chamarajendra Zoological Garden, Mysore and Tyavarekoppa Safari.The arrival of new birds has enthralled visitors. Nagendra Rao who came to the safari with his grand children said that the birds were charming, especially the sparrows and parrots.The new arrivals are three pairs of Silver Pheasants; five pairs of Red Jungle fowl; three pairs of common ring necked dove; a pair of lady Amherst’s Pheasants; five pairs of Black Crowned Night heron; five pairs of Budgerigar; 10 pairs of Peach faced love birds; three pairs of red Munia; three pairs of White-throated Munia; two pairs of Cockatiel and 10 pairs of Java Sparrows. RFO of Tyavarekoppa Safari said that the number of visitors have increased after the summer holidays began and generally the safari is crowded on Sundays.The arrival of these birds have added glitter to the safari, he added. The Forest Department has constructed 15 new cages to accommodate these new birds.
