BANGALORE: With increasing population in the city, the problem of water availability is getting worse. Analysing the prevailing situation, we can expect a water famine by 2020, if the government and the public do not wake up,” asserted PGR Sindhia, Director of Centre for Policies and Practices. Addressing the media after the workshop on water famine in Bangalore, organised by CPP and Bangalore Environment Trust on Saturday, he announced that in January-February 2012, CPP is planning for a conference related to water problems, which will be based on the recommendations made during the workshop. He said, “The government agencies like BWSSB, BBMP, BDA and KSPCB, all work as individual identities. Hence it is necessary to form Citizen’s Vigilance Committee to keep a check. Discussion related to forming of the committee will be made during the course of the conference.” Issues related to rejuvenating lakes and water bodies, rain water harvesting were discussed during the workshop. Around 50 resource persons from government and various NGOs were present.
