Manila (Philippines): At a seaside park in Manila, over 11,000 school children brushed their teeth in an attempt to break the world record for the largest number of people simultaneously brushing their teeth together.
They were also trying to raise awareness about tooth decay at the event.
Over 10,800 students from eight metropolitan Manila grade schools, guided by 187 dentists, used soft-bristle toothbrushes for nearly three minutes at the Rizal Park.
Following the brush-off the students playfully tossed into the air red caps given by organizers.
The mass brush-off, sponsored by a toothpaste company and Philippine health and education officials, was an attempt to break the Guinness World record set by 10,240 Chinese students who simultaneously brushed their teeth along a road in Shenzhen City, China on September 20, 2003.
"We also want to make oral cavity prevention relevant to the general public," said dentist Angel David II, who helped organized the event.
