HYDERABAD: It was the sheer pleasure of displaying her gold ornaments that got D Swati killed. She would always wear her jewellery at the functions she attended and boast of its price. That led to her killers hatching a plan to murder her and rob her of her jewellery.Swati was killed a few days ago by none other than her distant relative and his associate. They stole 30 tola of gold worth Rs 6.5 lakh but a chance call she made to her husband a few minutes before her death, led to the killers being caught.Thirty-one year Swati's throat was slit in her flat in Lakshmi apartments at Padmarao Nagar on July 7 morning and gold was stolen from the house. Swati's husband D Satish Babu is a software engineer at Pioneer Online at Madhapur. The couple have two daughters aged nine and four years. Swati was into the business of providing internet connections for businesses and operated from her home.During investigation, police found that two persons - S Giri Babu of BHEL and his associate M Nagaraju of Patancheru entered the house after entering their names in the guest register of the apartment."Swati served them tea and had a chat with them. During that period, Swati called her husband and told him that Giri was in the house," north zone DCP Ch Srikanth said. He added that the duo had come with a plan to kill her and not just rob her at knife point. They suddenly pounced on Swati and slit her throat."The duo had made an attempt to kill the woman 10 days before the murder but had failed as she had gone to visit her in-laws at the time," the DCP said. The DCP said that Giri was addicted to a luxurious lifestyle. "He had anticipated much more jewellery in her possession as she used to boast of it openly. He also expected money to be in the house as Satish is a software engineer."Giri was caught on Monday while moving on a stolen motorcycle and in possession of some gold ornaments. Further interrogation led to the recovery of some more ornaments from Giri's house and from Muthoot Finance at Chandanagar where they had been pledged.Police said the duo stole the vehicle from Pet Basheerabad and using the same, snatched the chain of a morning walker at Miyapur. Police also recovered the two tola gold chain they had snatched and pledged at Manapuram gold finance company at Patancheru. "We are now investigating how the finance companies took the ornaments without proper verification," the DCP said.
