Mohali: England's stand-in captain Andrew Flintoff has become a father for second time after his wife Rachael gave birth to a boy in England on Wednesday night.

"Corey Flintoff, weighing 6 pounds and 14oz, was born yesterday," a spokesman for the England team said on Thursday.

The couple have an 18-month-old daughter, Holly.

The new baby was due on March 21 and the talismanic all-rounder had earlier planned to be with his wife for the delivery.

But Flintoff dropped the plan after he was named captain in the absence of injured captain Michael Vaughan and his deputy Marcus Trescothick.

The cricketer now plans to fly home during the five-day gap between the third and final Test in Mumbai and the One-Day series starting on March 28.

Flintoff became a national hero when he helped England claim Ashes victory after a gap of 18 years last summer.

He scored 402 runs at an average of 40.20 and took 24 wickets at 27.29 in the five-Test series which England won 2-1.
