NEW DELHI: Chennai-based malls expect an increase of 75 per cent footfalls, this Deepavali, as retailers and consumer durable firms have come out with lucrative offers including discounts, free gifts and interest free finance options to capitalise on festive sale. “Malls in the metro are likely to spend over Rs 100 crore just on decoration, including contemporary lighting and promotional campaigns for the season, which started in the last week of September and expected to be on till early November,” said D S Rawat, secretary general of ASSOCHAM. Retailers and manufacturers of consumer durables expect an increase of 45 to 60 per cent in their sale during this period, even though the first two quarters of this financial year saw a reduction in footfall by 20 per cent.Gung-ho about brisk business during the third quarter, they have  increased their overall marketing budget by 30 per cent for this period alone.Promotional activities in malls will include product launches by celebrities, food festivals, mehndi and tattoo workshops by professional artists, cooking competition for shoppers, exhibitions, gaming contests, tasks for kids and youngsters among other fun activities. Gift vouchers, gift items like apparels, artificial jewellery, accessories and cosmetics will be given to the winners.
