GHMC Commissioner, M T  Krishna Babu directed the Zonal Commissioner of Central Zone to remove all the  encroachments on footpaths immediately.

The commissioner on Monday inspected footpaths from Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital, Mehidpatnam to the Masab Tank Road and found encroachments on both sides of the footpaths.

He asked officials to take up a special drive to remove dangling cable wires and trimming of tree branches that are obstructing the footpaths, to make sure that they are properly utilised by the pedestrians.

The commissioner pointed out that footpaths are being encroached by the vendors and telephone booths and covered by tree branches at several places.

He directed concerned executive engineer to shift electrical poles from the footpaths duly coordinating with the APCPDCL authorities and the transformer near NMDC footpath which is obstructing the path of the pedestrians. He also wanted officials to take up the same with single column construction for the convenience of the pedestrians.

He observed that the cross girders of the Foot over Bridge (FoB) basement at NMDC is also obstructing the free movement of pedestrians for which he has directed the concerned executive engineer to get it corrected immediately. He also directed the chief engineer to concentrate on footpath works near bus stops in the twin cities for the convenience of the passengers.

Later, the commissioner visited Road no.1, Banjara Hills and inspected the ongoing works of footpaths and expressed his  dissatisfaction  over the delay in the work and directed the concerned executive engineer to see that the contractor to whom the work was allotted completes the same within  three days failing which, he said, the contract should be cancelled and the contractor blacklisted.
