Form committee to decide on Afzal's body: JKNPP
The JK National Panthers Party chief said he had written to the President to form a three-member committee to look into the matter.

Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) on Tuesday demanded that the government should set up a committee to decide whether the body of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru should be handed over to his family or not. "I have written to President (Pranab Mukherjee) and asked for formation of a three-member committee comprising the Law Minister, the Attorney General and one independent senior advocate (to decide whether Afzal's body should be handed over to his family)," JKNPP chief patron Bhim Singh told reporters.

"Let the committee submit its report in two days on what law says on the matter," he said, adding that, however, the family's wish should be respected.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had yesterday said let the Parliament discuss whether the body of Afzal should be taken to Jammu and Kashmir as demanded by his family. Afzal was hanged and buried in Tihar Jail on February 9 for his role in the 2001 attack on Parliament.

The JKNPP chief also accused the Omar Abdullah-led state government of failing in all respects of governance. "The government was sunk in corruption...There is no trace of governance in Jammu and Kashmir...It is the fittest case for President's rule," Bhim Singh said.

On the appointment of former DGP Kuldeep Khuda as the state's first Chief Vigilance Commissioner, he said his party will challenge the decision. "Appointment of the Vigilance Commissioner shall be challenged as it is illegal, unconstitutional and malafide," he alleged.
