CHENNAI: A 25-year-old software engineer committed suicide in the room of a well-known star hotel at St Thomas Mount on Thursday. Police suspect that the woman was frustrated with her personal life. According to police sources, Ramalakshmi (25) of Nanganallur left home on Wednesday afternoon claiming that she was going out to buy a gift for a function she was to attend. When she did not return home, her mother Krishnaveni lodged a missing complaint with the Palavanthangal police. Ramalakshmi was a senior analyst with an IT giant at Sholinganallur. On Thursday, she had checked out of a room at a well-known star hotel at St Thomas Mount police limits around noon. After making the payments at the reception of the hotel, she went back to her room stating that she wanted to bring her baggage down. When she did not come down for over an hour, the hotel staff alerted the police, sources said.When police arrived and broke open the door of the room, they found the woman lying dead on the bed, foaming in the mouth. A suicide note found said that she had consumed sleeping pills. Sources said the woman, who got married in 2007, was frustrated after a divorce case was filed last year. Police have filed a case. “She mentioned in her suicide note that she was responsible for her own death,” said a police official.
