BANGALORE :If everything goes well, there will be no debris marring city’s beauty. Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP)has invited tenders for garbage collection with new guidelines and hopes to make it a reality this time.The civic body had failed to invite tenders for the past one-and-a-half years. BBMP invited tenders for solid waste management (SWM) in December 2005. However, the work order was issued only on March 2007. It was closed in March 2010.In between, Palike called for global tender for SWM in September 2009 to which a few contractors brought a stay. It took eight months to vacate the stay and it was done in June 2010. It took another three months to discuss and finally the tender proposal was submitted to the Standing Committee on Taxation and Finance in September 2010. From here, it took another two months to transfer it to the Health Committee.Finally, the Council approved the tender in November 2010. It was discussed again and resubmitted to the Health Committee in December 2010. Again the matter came to Council and it was approved in January this year. After 20 days of Council’s approval, again a few contractors approached the court and brought a stay in February. However, the BBMP got the stay vacated soon.Tender was again re-submitted to Health Department in March and was approved by Council after seven days. But it was cancelled just 10 days after the approval. It was re-submitted to health committee in June and was approved by Council. The Palike called for the tender in July. But again matter went to court in August and a stay was brought. According to sources, there are only seven to eight contractors in Bangalore for disposal of garbage. The new tender document was prepared by a few elected representatives and some contractors. The document itself is not properly framed.
