Give Shabbir a chance, Pak urges ICC
The Pakistan Cricket Board has urged ICC to give banned pacer Shabbir Ahmed one more chance to clear his illegal bowling action.

Lahore: In a desperate bid to revive the career of Shabbir Ahmed, the Pakistan Cricket Board has urged the International Cricket Council (ICC) to give the banned pacer one more chance to clear his illegal bowling action.

According to a PCB official, former Pakistan captain Majid Khan raised the issue in the ICC Cricket Committee meeting in Dubai this weekend and sounded optimistic about Shabbir getting another chance to clear his action.

Twice reported for suspect action last year, Shabbir was slapped a one-year ban by the ICC in December last year and though PCB filed an appeal against the ban in January, an ICC appointed independent Bowling Review Group (BRG) rejected it.

"Majid did a very good job for Pakistan in the Cricket Committee meeting. Now all the recommendations will go to the chief executive officers' meeting and if the CEOs ratify it, the issue would be discussed and hopefully approved by the Executive Board in its July

meeting," the official said.

Majid is also Pakistan's nominee for the post of the chairman of the ICC Cricket Committee, a post currently held by Sunil Gavaskar.

The PCB official said there was every hope that Shabbir would return to international cricket, especially after former Test pacer Sarfraz Nawaz worked for over a month with him.
