Days after Haryana IAS officer Ashok Khemka's claims, CNN-IBN has accessed documents that reveal that Congress President Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra did buy land from Omkareshwar properties using a 'fictitious' cheque. Documents accessed by CNN-IBN show IAS officer Ashok Khemka claiming in his response to a Haryana government inquiry report that Vadra, through his firm Skylight Hospitality, bought 3.5 acres land from Omkareshwar properties in February 2008 and, in its filings with the government, stated that money had been paid in full for the transaction. CNN-IBN's senior editor Jyoti Kamal joined IBNLive readers for an interaction on the issue.
Q. Money paid in full. Is this done on all white payment. Does it happen in Haryana? Asked by: sundar1950in
A. Khemka has asked for the income tax returns of Vadra. they will make it clear as to what were the source of funds. strangely to get a colony or a commercial license from the government in Haryana you are required to submit an IT certificate. In Vadras case, that requirement was excused. he did not submit an IT certificate. So yes, the question is open...what was the source of funds?
Q. The role of corporation bank in the deal is not coming through in full. Is it a minor player in the whole scheme of things? Asked by: sundar1950in
A. Corporation bank is just any other regular bank. they are not involved in this as the bank has no role to play in a land transaction. If Vadra had the money, well and good. it is like anyone issuing a cheque for a large amount, that may not be in the bank. and if no one encashes that cheque, no one has any problem. so it is not corporation bank that is suspect, but Vadra's issue of cheques belonging to this bank that are suspect.
Q. Is there any big project in the country where the politicos have not cornered their real interest in getting the project through? Asked by: sundar1950in
A. I would doubt it. land is the biggest resource through which those in power corner money, because they have insider knowledge. in almost all deals there is an element of influential people getting benefit. Khemka has said that 21000 acres got colony development licenses in Haryana during the congress rule of last 8 years. The minimum benefit on each acre after getting a commercial license is rs 1 crore. so the scam at a minimum is rs 21000 crores. If the premium was what Vadra got then the deals were worth more than rs 3 lakh crore!
Q. The real estate business in India works this way only. Why Vadra alone is being targeted? Asked by: sundar1950in
A. The system has to be set right somewhere. ideally this money, that is the premium amount after getting a commercial license should come to the citizens or the government for use in development works. By monopolising the issue of licenses and then granting them to near and dear ones or those who oblige them, the system has been polluted and the rich are getting richer while the poor are getting poorer. bad economics for India's growth. Khemka says he focused on Khemka to show how the influential are messing with the system and gaming it.
Q. The truth is already out. Is the defence strong? Asked by: sundar1950in
A. The Defence is not strong. but the way the government is defending the Vadra deal by not acting upon Khemka's suggestions is obviously to avoid a larger inquiry. Vadra is just the tip of the iceberg...tens of thousands of acres have been milked by the powerful. don't you wonder how some people get so rich, so quickly, apparently doing nothing? isn't something wrong with this model?
Q. The truth is known to the entire Nation, except for the Congress and the Haryana government. Robert Vadra, is no ordinary man, go to any airport, you will find his name mentioned under list of VIP exempted from check. What are his credentials other than the fact that he is the SIL of Congress Chief. He can come out innocent, by just proving one fact, who paid the money for 3.5 acres land in 2008. That's all, but look at how shamelessly Haryana minister is saying on the National Channels, as long as there has been no revenue loss to the government, Vadra is innocent. By the same logic, How is Jagan Mohan Reddy an accused and why is he languishing in Jail. Can the Congress answer. Asked by: S ESHWAR
A. Very simply, there are no permanent enemies and no permanent friends. Only permanent interests. if the interest right now is served by defending Vadra, so be it for the Congress.
