New Delhi: Gurjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla offered to talk with the Rajasthan government after thousands of his community members blockaded the National Capital Region in support of their demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
"We are willing to talk through our representatives with the Rajasthan government, if the government makes a proper proposal," Bainsla said in Karawadi in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan. He didn’t clarify what he meant by "proper proposal".
"However, we will not settle for anything less than ST status and we will not move from here till we have the recommendation letter from the state government," he said.
Gurjar leaders in Karawadi said the Rajasthan government has not sent them a formal invitation for talks, except publishing newspapers advertisements and distributing pamphlets. "All these tactics are of no use," said Bainsla
Rajasthan, where the Gurjar protests broke out a week ago, was mostly calm Thursday. Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje had thousands of pamphlets dropped over areas where the protests are taking places, asking the Gurjars to end their campaign.
The army and paramilitary forces are patrolling many districts in Rajasthan including Bharatpur, Dausa, Sawai Madhopur and Karauli. Northern Railways on Thursday cancelled 18 trains and diverted several others in view of the Gurjar blockade of NCR on Thursday.
