Mumbai: A 16-year-old hearing and speech disabled girl was gangraped by three men at knifepoint in Bhandup on Monday afternoon. All three of them were later arrested.

According to the Bhandup police, the victim is a Std VIII student and lived with her family at Jamil Nagar, Bhandup (West). The incident occurred when the teen was playing outside her house.

The three accused — Kallu Sureshchandra Jaiswal alias Shivkumar (23) and two other 16-year-olds — forcefully escorted the girl to Jaiswal’s home nearby and then raped her one by one at knifepoint.

"When the girl did not return home, her parents started looking for her and hearing her scream, they rushed to Jaiswal’s home," said an official from the Bhandup police station. "The accused trio, realising that they were going to be caught, tried to flee the spot, but two of them were caught by the relatives, while one managed to escape," he added.

The police have arrested Jaiswal and his 16-year old accomplice in the case. The escaped youth was later arrested by the cops.

Officials added that the two minors were Std IX dropouts, while Jaiswal worked in a private firm. Senior Inspector Srirang Nadgauda said, "We have charged the accused under Section 376 (rape), 366 (kidnapping or abducting), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement) and 34 (common intention) under the Indian Penal Code. Jaiswal has been remanded to police custody till May 21 and the minor accused have been sent to juvenile custody."

Meanwhile, the victim has been sent for a medical examination to Nagpada hospital.
