BANGALORE: In firstofits kind initiative, the government hospitals across the state are gearing up for a NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare providers) accreditation.
"As of now, there are 10 district hospitals that are in the fray for the NABH accreditation and 205 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across the state that are being upgraded so that they can receive an ISO certification," said Selva Kumar, mission director, Directorate of Health and Family Welfare services, during a medical conference in the city on Wednesday. He also maintained that the department is working in collaboration with NABH assessors in private hospitals on Public Private Partnership (PPP) model so that they can help in gap analysis for it. "We are working according to the requirements and the areas where we need improve so that we can get the accreditation from the national bodies," Selva Kumar explained.

District hospitals in Tumkur, Bijapur, Kolar, Hassan, Hubli, Gulbarga, Haveri, Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Chikmagalur, Kolar, KC General and Jayanagar General Hospitals have been included in the list.

Speaking on the manpower crunch during the conference, Health Secretary E V Ramana Reddy maintained that there is a sufficient availability of budget. "Compared to other states, we have better PHCs, but we lack sufficient doctors and specialists", he added.
