Anshul Kamboj dismissed eight India B batters for 69 runs in his quota of 27.5 overs to help India C take a massive lead of 193 runs in the first innings.

23-year-old Haryana pacer Anshul Kamboj, who made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians in the 2024 edition of the cash-rich league and played three matches, picked up an 8-wicket haul for India C on Sunday (September 15) in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024 match against India B at the Rural Development Trust Stadium B in Anantapur.

The right-arm medium pacer finished the first inning with figures of 8 for 69 in 27.5 overs. He dismissed the likes of Musheer Khan, Sarfaraz Khan, Rinku Singh, and Nitish Reddy, among others, to help his side take a massive lead of 193 runs at the end of the first inning of both teams.

Kamboj finished the third day’s play with a five-wicket haul, and he added three more wickets to his total in the morning session of the fourth day.

His figures of 8 for 69 are the fifth-best bowling performance in the history of the Duleep Trophy. The overall record of taking most wickets in an innings of a Duleep Trophy match is in the name of Debasis Mohanty, who picked up 10 wickets for 46 runs in 19 overs as an East Zone player against South Zone in Agartala on January 25, 2001.

Best bowling performance in Duleep Trophy (in an innings)

  • Debasis Mohanty (East Zone) – 10/46 vs South Zone, 2001

  • Arshad Ayub (South Zone) – 8/65 vs North Zone, 1987
  • Anshul Kamboj (India C) – 8/69 vs India B, 2024

For India B, apart from captain Abhimanyu Easwarwan, no other batter was able to impress with his performance. The Bengal-based cricketer, who opened the innings, remained unbeaten till the end and, during his stay at the crease, scored 157 runs from 286 balls.

Anshul, who was signed for Rs 20 lakh by MI, made his IPL debut against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on May 6, and he finished the match with figures of 1 for 42 in four overs. He clean bowled Mayank Agarwal to pick his maiden wicket in the world’s richest franchise cricket league.

In the second match against KKR at Eden Gardens, he bowled three overs and got the prized wicket of Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer.
