Pune: Sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar and his daughter Anoushka were refused accommodation in a hotel in Pune because they insisted on taking their pet dog to their room.
According to sources in the hotel (Sun and Sand), 87-year-old Pandit Ravi Shankar's accommodation had been duly booked, but when it was known that a pet too was to keep the company of the legendary musician, now settled in the US, an objection was raised on Thursday.
"Our rules for guests do not allow accommodation of pets. When this was communicated, the booking for the party was cancelled," a duty officer of the hotel said.
However, another hotel accommodated Ravi Shankar, his daughter and the dog. Ravi Shankar and his daughter are scheduled to perform for a charity in Pune on Saturday.
Prashant Damle, Marathi stage actor and organiser of Saturday's concert by the father and the daughter, confirmed the episode but accused the media of 'blowing it up'.
