A man named Jeevan from Hudco Colony, Srikakulam City in Andhra Pradesh has stirred the headlines for undertaking a noble initiative. According to Local 18 Hyderabad, he has started a Clean Nagavali River program, to clean the river from the enormous heaps of garbage. Not only the Nagavali river, but Jeevan is also fond of caring about other aspects of the environment as well. Jeevan said that he had to cross a bridge built over the Nagavali River to reach his grandmother’s house. While going to his grandparent’s house, he noticed that the passerby crossing the bridge, used to dump massive garbage in the river. This deeply pained him and he decided to launch the mission to protect the Nagavali river.

Jeevan launched this mission on Instagram with the tagline ‘Save the Nagavali River from waste’. This mission evoked a brilliant response from social media users. Encouraged by this momentum, Jeevan also started writing about the Save the Nagavali River mission on Twitter. The Hudco Colony man asked that he would require the help of more than 100 people in this initiative. On Jeevan’s call, the Srikakulam Municipal Commissioner and Health Officer Venkata Rao stepped forward to help him. They helped launch the Clean Nagavali River program, which was organised on two Sundays in a month and was completed with the help of volunteers. The commissioner and the health officer also sent some of their staff to help clean the river.

Other people who helped Jeevan in this initiative are Siddhartha Pramod Naidu, Yogesh Naidu, Yashwant, Prashanth, Madhu, Harikesh, Praneet and Dushyant. Jeevan said that the day kept for the Clean Nagavali River program, that is Sunday, mattered a lot and helped in generating great responses from people.

The members of the Clean Nagavali River program said that it is everyone’s responsibility to protect the Nagavali River which is the lifeline of the natives living in Srikakulam city. The Municipal Health Officer said that if any cleaning program is organised anywhere in the name of Clean Srikakulam, they will provide help on behalf of Srikakulam Municipality. Jeevan thanked everyone who helped him with this initiative, including the donors, the Municipal Commissioner and the staff of the Municipal Health Office.
