Shresth was travelling from Bhopal to Lucknow with a friend to attend an event at the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow. But now he is recuperating in Lucknow after witnessing an accident that "shook him for life”.
"I felt as though metal was clashing with metal. It was like a collision. My upper birth was almost tilted by the time the train halted," he said.
When Shresth and his friend tried leaving the wreckage through one of the doors, they could hardly make way as the entire passage was strewn with dead bodies.

“I did not want to step on the bodies so we took the other door, but by the time we deboarded, all I could see were either dead people or children crying for their parents."
It took him seconds to realise that the accident was devastating and they decided to leave the place since it was still dark in the early hours of the morning. Shresth and his friend, with the help of GPS navigation, reached the nearby Pushkarayan village.
Recalling a few theories doing rounds at Pushkarayan about the cause of the accident, he said, "Many said the UP belt is famous for chain pulling incidents in the train, and when the train was in full speed it could not stop and hence derailed."
At least 115 people were killed when 14 coaches of the Indore-Patna Express train derailed near Kanpur city on Sunday.
