NAGASAMUDRA(CHITRADURGA):  The public’s long wait to catch a glimpse of Indira Gandhi’s daughter-in-law got fulfilled once Sonia Gandhi landed here around 9.30 am.Sonia arrived in a motorcade, standing on the footboard of a car. Clad in a white saree, she waved at the people, who had gathered on both sides of the road to see her. Politicians from Andhra Pradesh had come to meet the leader.Apart from SPG officials from New Delhi, no stone was left unturned to provide security to the AICC president. She was whisked away by security officials when she was about to respond to media queries.Boranakunte Thimmappa, a villager, said, “Sonia came to us and inquired in Hindi, but I couldn’t understand what she said. Those who accompanied her never tried to translate. Anyway, I am happy with her visit.”Public attributed the rain on Friday evening, which filled the parched Nagasamudra tank, to divine appeasement arising out of Sonia’s visit.Meanwhile, Sonia enquired villagers of Nagasamudra about the progress of the UPA government’s flagship programme MGNREGS.Villagers also informed Sonia that water in the village was contaminated and had caused health hazards. The farmers urged her to waive agricultural loans.  Meanwhile, Sonia promised silk weavers of Molkalmur that steps will be taken to overcome their crises. President of Vinayaka Silk and Cotton Handloom Weavers’ Co-operative Society G U Sreekantha said Molakalmuru’s famous sarees may soon become history if Centre doesn’t intervene.
