BHUBANESWAR: Software major Infosys has pinned hopes on accelerated approvals and procedures of the State Government to enable commencement of work on the Infocity II project at Khurda as soon as possible. The Infocity II campus would have around  3,000 to 5,000 employees in the first phase. The staff strength would be increased on the basis of growth, Executive Co-Chairman of Infosys Technologies Kris Gopalakrishnan told mediapersons here on Thursday. The main focus will be to create sustainable campuses that would be more eco-friendly and consumes less natural resources. “Each campus will have a distinct identity,” he added.  Kris, who was here to attend the Foundation Day in Xavier Institute of Management (XIMB), also pitched for FDI in the education sector. When asked if the Indian institutes like IITs and IIMs could compete with all the foreign investments coming in, he said he had full faith in the Indian institutes. “We will compete. I have faith and I am very sure,” added Gopalakrishnan. His lecture for XIMB’s Foundation Day was “Innovation in the 21st Century”. The current model of growth depends on consumption and credit, which is flawed. Excess debt in the developed countries is adding to the woes. “We need to make sure we are not borrowing from the future, we need to always keep the environment in mind,” said Goapalakrishnan. “A model based on per capita consumption to create a sustainable future is what we need. And what better place to talk about than in front of the future managers in XIMB,” he added. This was the 9th Foundation Day celebration of the institute. XIMB chairman Rajive Kaul was present at the press meet.
