THIRUVANANATHAPURAM : Former Finance Minister Thomas Isaac and Former Industries Minister Elamaram Kareem have once again levelled allegations of corruption in the KMML expansion projects prepared by the previous UDF Government.They said corruption was involved in entrusting MECON, the Central PSU, in implementing the projects. They said paper companies located in Germany and other foreign countries were given sub-contracts in implementing the ASP plant and oxygen plants in KMML.The expansion projects worth Rs 860 crores were shelved following the LDF Government coming to power. He said names of brokers like Grindex heard in the TTP projects were also heard in the KMML expansion projects.Elamaram Kareem said that during the LDF Government’s time they had found a Power of Attorney signed by Crayogenmash company in which it has been found that the company was authorised to sign contracts above USD 10 million signed by Chairman and President of Board of directors of Cryogenmash or by his specific delegate.The note prepared for the visit of Consul In Indian embassy in Moscow to hold discussions with the Chief Minister had contained the reference that the IUML representative was holding the Industries portfolio and it was dubious. They demanded a comprehensive probe into the role of the brokers and corruption involved in the projects. They pointed out that the government should fight the arbitration cases filed against the company by the foreign companies which were given sub-contracts by MECON. They alleged that it was the Congress and UDF leaders who blocked the CBI probe demanded by the then LDF government.
