THIRUVANANATHAPURAM : Former  Finance Minister Thomas Isaac and  Former Industries Minister Elamaram Kareem have once again levelled allegations of corruption  in the KMML expansion projects  prepared by the previous UDF Government. They said corruption was involved in entrusting MECON,  the Central PSU, in implementing the projects.  They said paper companies  located in  Germany and other foreign countries were given sub-contracts in implementing the ASP plant and  oxygen plants in KMML.The expansion projects worth Rs 860 crores were shelved following the LDF Government coming to power.   He said names of  brokers like Grindex  heard in the TTP projects were also heard in the  KMML expansion projects.Elamaram Kareem said that during the LDF Government’s time they had  found a Power of Attorney  signed  by Crayogenmash  company in which it has been found that the company was authorised to  sign contracts above USD  10 million signed by Chairman  and President  of Board of directors  of Cryogenmash  or by  his specific  delegate. The note prepared for the visit of Consul In Indian embassy in Moscow to hold discussions with the Chief Minister had contained the reference that the IUML representative was holding the  Industries portfolio and it was dubious.  They demanded a comprehensive probe into the  role of the brokers and corruption involved in the projects.  They pointed out that  the government should fight the arbitration cases filed against the company by the foreign companies which were given sub-contracts by MECON.  They alleged that it was the Congress and UDF leaders who blocked the CBI probe demanded by the then LDF government.
