Its snowing in Daringbadi, cold wave claims one

PHULBANI: Daringbadi recorded the first snowfall of the season on Monday with mercury plummeting to minus one degree Celsius. The wee hours of Tuesday saw thatched housetops and paddy fields covered with one centimetre thick layer of snow. For the past two days, the temperature of Daringbadi and nearby Bharamarabadi, Danekbadi, Hatimunda, Tajungia, Gadapur, Brahamunigaon and Sirkabarg villages has been dipping sharply.Following the snowfall, birds were found dead in remote parts of the district. The severe cold also claimed a life on Monday, according to Partamaha gram panchayat sarpanch Ramesh Pradhan. The deceased has been identified as Purnima Nayak (65) of Partamaha village under Daringbadi block. In another incident, a girl accidentally burnt herself while sitting close to the fire. She later succumbed. The administration, however, has to confirm the deaths.
