J&K power crisis: Civil society calls for bandh
The state has been undergoing massive load shedding of up to 16 hours per day leading to protests last week.

Srinagar: Civil society groups, under the banner of the Kashmir Economic Alliance, have called for a bandh in Srinagar on Friday to protest against the ongoing power crisis in the state.

Shops remained closed and most vehicles stayed off the roads on Friday due to the bandh.

Meanwhile, separatists have backed the bandh. JKLF chief Yasin Malik is expected to stage a sit-in at Maisuma.

Kashmir has been undergoing up to 14-16 hours of power cuts each day. Last week, one man was killed and three others injured when the CISF personnel opened fire at villagers protesting against the power cuts in Uri.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has promised to take up the matter with the Home Ministry.
