The logo of the Foundation was also launched on the occasion.Speaking to mediapersons, M A Baby, who is the chairman of the Foundation, said that the foundation had also instituted a literary award in memory of the writer.“The major Indian languages will be divided into four zones and works from one of the zones will be considered for the award each year, on rotation basis. The maiden award will be presented to East Zone, which includes Assamese, Odiya, Bengali and Manipuri. The best from the original works published during the past five years in languages of the zone will be presented the annual Kakkanadan Foundation Literary Award,” he said.  The award carries a purse of `1 lakh, a statuette designed by artist C N Karunakaran and citation. The award jury consists of K Sachithanandan (chairman), Nirmal Kanti Bhattacharjee, Manabendra Bandyopadhyay and M Thomas Mathew.The award will be declared in New Delhi on August 24 and will be presented at a function to be organised here to commemorate the first death anniversary of Kakkanadan on October 19.  The Foundation has also instituted an endowment for research in Malayalam language and literature.The research based on the works of Kakkanadan would be given priority. N Saudamini, who is doing research on ‘Keralite life and values in novels of Kakkandan’, would receive the endowment of `10,000 for the year 2012. The Foundation aims at setting up a Kakkanadan Memorial Centre, which houses a language research and study centre and an institute for creative writing.
