New Delhi: The Centre on Friday has appeared to have reached a decision on the month-long Commonwealth Games (CWG) controversy. The Government sources have told the CNN-IBN that Suresh Kalmadi will stay on as CWG Organising Committee Chairman. But Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrashekhar will be asked to co-ordinate the CWG preparations.

The Congress now unwilling to act against Kalmadi till alleged fresh allegations that have been levelled against him, are proven and the Games are over. A core group of the Congress, led by Congress President Sonia Gandhi and the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, will attend a core committee meeting to discuss the issue on Friday.

The Cabinet Secretary Chandrashekar will also be entrusted with co-ordinating between the various agencies involved in the CWG preparations. Top Government sources have confirmed to CNN-IBN that Suresh Kalmadi though will continue as Commonwealth Games Chairman and the Centre is reluctant to act on the basis of allegations at this stage. A section of the Congress is keen for an oversight panel to be appointed to monitor the Commonwealth Games 2010 to be held in Delhi, starting from October 3- October 14.

Meanwhile, Commonwealth Games Federation Chief Mike Fennel has also come under the scanner.

The Enforcement Directorate has sent notices to the Royal Bank of Scotland and to its Indian representative for providing all transaction details of payments made by the CWG Organising Committee.

The final decision on Kalmadi will be expected after the Congress core committee meeting only on Friday evening.

However, On Thursday Kalmadi was accused of irregularities in the purchase of sporting equipment for National Games in Jharkhand.
