BANGALORE: Going green was the theme at the third edition of the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) Karnataka’s two-day annual Manufacturing Conference inaugurated on Thursday.Various speakers from the manufacturing industry highlighted the benefits of becoming environment-friendly as it would provide safety to the employees and the consumers. “The Government of India is coming up with a manufacturing policy that will help Indian industries to compete globally. Similarly, the State Government is also trying to ensure that small and medium industries become more competitive as they contribute to over 90 per cent of employment of the entire industry,” said M Maheshwar, Commissioner of Industries, Karnataka.Chairman, CII Karnataka State Council, S Chandrasekhar pointed out that the manufacturing industry had the potential to provide many with jobs,  which would help reduce the rate of poverty in the country.He also stated that the new national policy aimed to increase contribution of the manufacturing sector from 18 per cent to 25 per cent of the economy.
