KASARGOD: The Kasargod disturbances and the police firing allegedly to quell the rioters on November 15, 2009, are once again hogging the limelight, thanks to the WikiLeaks disclosure and the BJP demand to probe the Kasargod incident by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).The BJP made the call for a state-wide agitation demanding the NIA probe at the taluk office march organised by the party here on Monday. The BJP agitation and the march which are scheduled to be held in Kozhikode next and in all district headquarters subsequently are poised to rock the IUML in the days to come. The main plank of the BJP is that the IUML is a communal and extremist party which is now ruling the state. BJP state president V Muraleedharan said the BJP would ‘liberate the state’ from the communalelements who are now part of the UDF rule. According to BJP leaders, it is the IUML leaders who are calling the shots on all major decision-making of state Cabinet and the decision to wind up the Nizar Commission probing the Kasargod police firing would be projected as the IUML’s upper hand in the Cabinet.  The BJP does not perceive the IUML as a democratic and secular party. The BJP leaders said the IUML in the state has become a communal party with the infiltration of the  NDF as disclosed by the WikiLeaks. The Kasargod incident took place on November 15, 2009, on the day when the newly inducted office-bearers of the party were given a reception in the town. There is no evidence so far that the IUML has been cleared off the infiltrated elements. The WikiLeaks disclosure that NDF elements had infiltrated in the IUML and other parties and the statements made by the police officers to the Nizar Commission that there was a planned move to kick up a major communal riot in Malabar on November 15, 2009, has now assumed significance following the decision of the BJP to ‘liberate’ the state from extremist elements.
