THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state has scored high in the performance graph of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in 2011-12 by notching up a remarkable feat of providing 44.96 days of work for target families, as against the national average of 39.95. Likewise, if the number of work days provided to women under the scheme at the national level was 48.71 per cent out of the total days, it is a whopping 92.9 percent in Kerala, Rural Development Minister K C Joseph told a press conference here on Tuesday.The number of families which demanded work for adult members in comparison to the preceding year has gone up by 18 per cent, with 14,17,969 beneficiary households. Out of them 14,16,323 took up work.The number of  work days created in the last fiscal was 6,29,63,941, whereas it was only 4,93,22,652 in 2010-11. Women outnumbered men in taking up work under the scheme, as in the past years, since its inception in 2005. The number of families which got 100 work days in the fiscal was 1,22,086, whereas it was 72,395 only in the preceding year.The allocation of Central funds for the scheme in 2011-12 was Rs 951.05 crore, up by 35 percent than Rs 704.23 crore.The Centre had released additional funds of Rs 18 crore at the end of the last fiscal, which were utilised in Idukki, T’Puram, Kannur and Malappuram districts. The administrative expenses had been put at Rs 38.86 crore for the year.The Minister said that the Central Government’s empowered committee had given the nod for creation of a labour budget of 633 lakh workdays in the state during this fiscal and an allocation of Rs 1556.67 crore is expected to be released to meet the payment of wages.
