HYDERABAD: Infrastructure and investments minister Komatireddy Venkata Reddy, who is actively taking part in the Telangana movement, is all set to quit the state cabinet on Saturday. He has decided to resign from the Assembly as well.Reddy will meet governor ESL Narasimhan at the Raj Bhavan at 4 pm on Saturday and submit his resignation as minister. He will send another letter of resignation as an MLA to Assembly speaker Nadendla Manohar. On October 2 he will under take one-day fast in Nalgonda in support of Telangana. He will be the second from Telangana to resign from the Kiran Kumar Reddy ministry.A few months ago, Jupalli Krishna Rao had resigned as endowments minister though he has been continuing as an MLA.Venkata Reddy and his brother Rajagopal Reddy were close followers of former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy. After YSR’s sudden demise, Venkata Reddy continued in Rosaiah’s and Kiran Kumar Reddy’s cabinets.Of late, with the Telangana movement picking up, he has been drifting more and more from the chief minister and has even made some acerbic remarks against him. Now, he has decided to quit the cabinet to plunge headlong into the statehood movement. Venkata Reddy has personally represented the matter to the party high command and other leaders recently but failed to get any categorical assurance on Telangana.According to him, the high command is dodging the issue, making it a life and death problem for Congress leaders in the region. This made him fed up. “I have been in the Congress for 25 years. I started my political career as an NSUI activist. I will not leave the party. If Sonia Gandhi fails to take a decision in favour of T, then I will think of my political future,” Reddy told Express but ruled out any plan to float a party of his own.
