The inquiry commissioner of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) Sanjeev Joseph in a report has established facts regarding malpractice during elections to the Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (KPYCC) office-bearers.
The report would be soon tabled before the executive committee headed by Rahul Gandhi. Sources told Express that the committee comprises IYC president Rajiv Satav, senior leaders Jeethendra Singh and Meenakshi Natarajan.
Following allegations by a section of Youth Congress workers, the IYC had appointed the commissioner to probe the issue. The candidates had reportedly bribed the Returning Officers (RO) and Congress functionaries from other states. It is said that the money was allegedly sourced even from the mining sector. A document clearly indicated that the money was put in the account of Bheema Rao, who officiated as the RO of Bangalore South Lok Sabha Youth Congress elections. A Koppal Assembly constituency RO, who was caught over a telephonic conversation, confessed to Sanjeev that huge sums had changed hands during the Youth Congress polls in Karnataka.
Besides, there were a series of allegations of violations of rules, rigging and manipulations by the contestants. Reacting to the allegations, KPYCC president Rizwan Arshad clarified that he did not know of the report since it was confidential.
“I won by a huge margin. If I had been involved in rigging or malpractice, the national leaders would have taken action against me by now,” he claimed.
