KSRTC cuts short services to Coimbatore

PALAKKAD: The KSRTC on Friday operated only four buses from Palakkad depot to Coimbatore on convoy basis following stone throwing incidents by fringe groups in Coimbatore on the Mullaperiyar issue.Isolated incidents of stone throwing on KSRTC buses from Kerala were reported on Friday on the Tamil Nadu side of the border. Meanwhile, the buses of the Tamil Nadu State transport Corporation conducted services to Palakkad and beyond as usual without any hindrance.Of the five KSRTC buses which were stoned by miscreants on Thursday night, three returned to the Palakkad depot on Friday.KSRTC officials here said that they had been directed to conduct services only till 7 pm on Friday since stone throwing could escalate during night.They said that there are around 45 services operating to Coimbatore from Palakkad and other districts daily. Of them, 22 services are from Palakkad depot while the other services are from various districts to destinations like Bangalore, Chennai, Palani and Velankanni.
