PHULBANI: Kartik Paramanik, an accused in the 2008 Kandhamal riots case, was sentenced on Saturday to life imprisonment by fast track court 1 judge Sovan Das.According to prosecutor Suresh Kumar Mohapatra, 52-year-old Kartik along with other rioters set afire the house of one Ramesh Digal in Dakarpanga village under G Udaygiri police limits in August, 2008. When Digal tried to escape, the rioters chased and killed him at the Budhamaha ashram school square.Digal’s younger brother Naresh has filed a case.The same court has also acquitted 14 persons in another riot case of Dakedi village under G Udaygiri police limits.While disposing of the case, the fast track court no. 2 of B N Mishra has also acquitted 142 persons involved in two cases of Bamugigaon police limits for lack of evidence.
