BANGALORE: The Federation of Karnataka Lorry Owners Association (FOKLOA) stated that installation of speed governors in lorries would cause more financial burden on the members. They have opposed the government’s decision to make speed governors compulsory on all new vehicles from November 2 and on old vehicles by June 2012. A solution suggested by the association is increasing speed interceptors on troublesome roads. President of the Association G R Shamuganappa, said that the association would go on strike if the government does not consider their demands by October 20. The issue had once come up in 2008 and the matter was resolved on the grounds that the state had no viable machinery to enforce the rules. This decision was reached after a state-wide strike was called by the The Federation of Karnataka Lorry Owners.
