'Maasti Gudi' Tragedy: Kannada Actor Duniya Vijay Arrested
An FIR was registered against him in the Channammanakere achukattu police station under sections 225 and 353 of the IPC after he allegedly helped Sundar escape from the police.

More than a year after the 'Maastigudi' tragedy which killed two actors, sandalwood actor Duniya Vijay was today arrested from Tamil Nadu. The 44-year-old actor was arrested for obstructing the police from arresting the accused in the case - Sundar P Gowda, the producer of the movie -- last month.

An FIR was registered against him in the Channammanakere Achukattu police station under sections 225 and 353 of the IPC after he allegedly helped Sundar escape from the police. Vijay had been absconding when he was arrested from a resort between Coimbatore and Bandipur, and is being brought to Bengaluru by the police.

It was in November 2016 that two actors -- Raghava Uday and Anil Kumar -- drowned in the Thippagondanahalli reservoir. The two had jumped into water from a helicopter along with Duniya Vijay as part of a stunt scene for the movie Maasti Gudi. The deaths had raised questions about the actors' safety, as the hero of the film -- Vijay -- jumped with a life vest while the other two jumped without safety gears. A video of the incident showed the two waving their arms and shouting for help before drowning.

The film's producer was booked as one of the accused in the case. When the police arrived to arrest him last month, Vijay had allegedly helped Sundar escape from the spot.
