Teachers and students of a reputed women college in Patna on Monday staged protest against blockage of college entrance path due to construction of a convention centre on the line of Delhi's "Vigyan bhawan", but Chief Minister Nitish Kumar charged BJP with engineering protests by feeding wrong information.
Women teachers and students of Magadh Mahila college marched through streets of Patna as part of their agitation to gherao state Assembly to protest blockage of college entry path from front due construction of a convention centre near it.
Police used mild force in a bid to detain Patna University Students Union President Ashish Sinha who tried to mingle with the agitationists at R-block, police sources said.
The student leader is son of BJP MLA from Kumhrar, Arun Sinha.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar criticised opposition BJP for "fomenting" agitation by feeding "disinformation" among college faculty and students.
The plan for construction of a convention centre on the line of Delhi's "Vigyan bhawan" was approved three years ago and BJP was party to it. As part of the plan the college has been given a more wider entry road by from right side.
"But, BJP leaders are feeding wrong information among faculty and students now to provoke them to agitate against the government," he told reporters in his Assembly chamber.
JD(U) sources alleged that wife of former Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, who is a lecturer in the college, has been instrumental in fanning rumours among college staff and students against the government.
"This reflects anti-development attitude of the BJP," the CM said. Kumar said his late wife Manju Sinha was a student of the same college and he used to visit the place after marriage hence he could never think of harming its interest.
