New Delhi: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MP Sunil Mahato, who was murdered in full public view by Naxalites on Sunday evening near Narsingh village of Jamshedpur district, had gone to watch a football match in the Naxal-dominated area without the having informed the authorities.
The information was stated in a report submitted by the Jharkhand government to the Union home ministry, news agency PTI quoted official sources as saying.
They said Mahato had gone from his residence to Bakuria, 40 km from Jamshedpur, with only four guards from the Bihar Armed Police even though the area is well-known for being dominated by Naxals.
The 41-year-old politician, was killed by suspected Maoist rebels 10 minutes before the match ended, the sources said.
Mahatao, who represented Jamshedpur constituency in the Lok Sabha, and his bodyguards died instantly, while JMM worker Prabhakar Mahato succumbed to his injuries on the way to the Tata Main hospital in Jamshedpur.
