BALASORE: Even as the idols of Lord Biswakarma have been immersed elsewhere in the State since September 20, an idol at the puja mandap at Jankharai village here awaits the ritual. It could not be immersed till now due to communal tension.Sources said residents of the village under Remuna block had worshiped Biswakarma in a temporary puja mandap in the local market. After the puja when they wanted police permission for immersion procession, it was denied. The village which has both the Hindu and the Muslim inhabitants has seen frequent communal tension in recent times. During the immersion procession of Ganesh idol in September, five persons were injured and police arrested 10 persons following a group clash over playing of band in front of a masjid during the procession.“Sensing trouble, we did not allow the Biswakarma procession this time and asked the villagers to immerse the idol without any fanfare. But they did not buy the idea stating that the Muslims played loudspeakers during their festivals,” said a cop. Under these circumstances, the idol has been left unattended in the pandal.
