VISAKHAPATNAM: The Maoists on Saturday night attacked and blasted AP Forest Development Corporation (APFDC) godowns in GK Veedhi mandal in retaliation to the police arresting a tribal last week for being involved in distribution of APFDC coffee plantations among the tribals of the Agency area of the district.According to reports reaching here, Maoists, suspected to be of the Galikonda Area Committee, blasted the APFDC godowns in Lankapakalu village in GK Veedhi mandal of the district using gelatin sticks. The Maoists reportedly also damaged the house of their former comrade Seetha, who they suspected had joined the police force as a home guard. The Maoist attack was reportedly in retaliation to Wednesday’s police lathicharge on tribals of Rallagedda village under Balapam panchayat of Chintapalle mandal who were protesting the arrest of tribal Sindheri Karla.According to the police, they had registered cases in November 2010 against 95 villagers, who had supported the Maoists in occupation of 150 hectares of APFDC coffee plantation in Balapam village limits and distributing it among the tribals. In 2008 the Maoists occupied and distributed 250 hectares of APFDC coffee plantation at Marripakalu and Kumkumpudi estates. The police were trying to arrest the leaders of the land occupation movement since November 2010 and on Wednesday arrested Karla.
