Mayor Karthika to vacate seat Sunday

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy will step down from her post on Sunday paving the way for transfer of power from Congress to Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen.The MIM, as per its post-poll understanding with theCongress in 2009, will get to occupy the Mayor’s post for the next two years. The Congress will get the deputy mayor post during the period and the Mayor’s post again in the final year of the five-year term.PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana had a meeting at Gandhi Bhavan here on Saturday which was attended by Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee president D Nagendar, Hyderabad district in-charge minister Dr J Geeta Reddy and home minister Sabita Indra Reddy and several other Congress leaders of the city. Mayor Karthika Reddy was also called in the evening and asked to tender resignation from the post on Sunday, honouring the agreement with MIM.APCC president also clarified that party would appoint a committee to decide on who would be the next deputy mayor.A notification will be issued by the state Election Commission for election of new Mayor after the vacancy is notified, official sources said.
