Meet Kavithayini, 70-year-old Tamil Author Who Received Many Honours For Her Work

The state of Tamil Nadu is known for their rich literary heritage, dating back centuries. Many well-known writers and poets have emerged from the state and have gained significant prominence. Some of them have also received international accolades making them a global name. Works of authors like Kalki Krishnamurthy, Ashokamitran, Indira Parthasarathy, C Rajagopalachari and Jayakanthan are still loved by people from all across the world. The person we are talking about here is Kavithayini. She is a retired school teacher and is 70 years old. She reportedly holds BSc, MA, MEd, and MPhil degrees. She has been writing books for several years now and has published around 22 of her works in both book and CD formats.

She has also been honoured by President APJ Abdul Kalam. Kavithayini was awarded with Tamil Chemmal Awards by the Tamil Nadu Government for her work. Her works speak about the people of Nilgiris and their culture.

Among the notable awards, she has reportedly received Indian Achievers Award and Seva Ratna Award for her valuable contribution towards Tamil literature. She has been honoured with around 20 accolades in her lifetime. Three of her books have been selected by the Tamil Nadu Government, which will be kept in all the libraries across the state.

Her poetry book Manam Vittup Pesalam was reportedly chosen as the best modern poetry book by the Tamil Nadu government and was awarded a cash prize. Adding to it, her other book Bharatha Thayin Veethi Ulavum Unmaigal received the Enlightenment Award from the World Tamil University in the United States.

Speaking about her books, Kavithayini said in an interview, “I do not do anything. Goddess Karumariamman guides me in everything I do in my life. I have written various books on social consciousness and spiritual awareness. Everyone should come forward to create a harmonious society where love and good character flourish, both within and outside the family, and everyone lives together happily. I consider receiving such awards a blessing bestowed upon me.”
