Meteorological department completes 136 years
The department promises more accurate predictions with new radars purchased.

New Delhi: The Met department is celebrating 136 years of unbroken service on Saturday. It's among the nation's oldest scientific institutions.

India had Met stations even two centuries ago. But it was after a devastating cyclone over Calcutta in 1864 and severe drought a few years later, that the India Meteorological Department was formed in 1875.

The department promises its weather predictions will be even more accurate now with the help of new radars purchased last year.

Director General of India Met Department Ajit Tyagi told that though the temperature is expected to dip further, the worst is over for Delhi this winters.
