THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The insinuations of a deal between R Selvaraj and the UDF continued to simmer on Tuesday with more details about the links between Selvaraj and Government Chief Whip P C George MLA cropping up. On March 9, the crucial day when Selvaraj tendered his resignation from the MLA post, it has come to light that he was in touch with George during the wee hours of the day. Two calls have gone out of the mobile phone of T R Reghunathan (94472-26531), the personal assistant of Selvaraj, to that of P C George (94470-43027) between 5 am and 6 am on Friday. It is to be noted that the timing is important since the LDF had been alleging that Selvaraj had met Oommen Chandy at the latter’s residence here around that time. George had said earlier claimed that he might have been asleep at that time and denied the charge. Given the fact that George and the PA of Selvaraj had spoken many times on March 4 and 6 also, it is obvious that both the MLAs were in direct contact and Selvaraj might have used the phone of his staff member. Selvaraj had also spoken to George once using his own mobile phone (94470-47362).With the details of the phone list now in the open, any probe into it might put the UDF more on the defensive. The charge of a financial deal is in the air and this has become campaign material for the LDF in the Piravom bypoll, despite Chandy challenging the Opposition to prove the allegations.
