HYDERABAD: Opposing privatisation of AP Tourism Development Corporation properties across the state, a round table meeting organised in the city on Thursday demanded that the state government stop privatisation failing which an agitation would be launched.
The round table was organised at the AITUC office. Participating in the meeting, former AP Tourism Development Corporation managing director C Anjaneya Reddy wondered that though the tourism department was earning profits, how could the government think of privatising it.''If the government gives away tourism properties to private persons, it will be a costly affair and will come in the way of common people visiting such places,'' he said and suggested that if any private person wanted to set up tourism centres, they can set up with their own funds.

Urging the government to stop privating the corporation's properties, the meeting threatened to launch an agitation and decided to meet chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy first.

Anjaneya Reddy suggested that political interference be restricted in the department. Criticising the government, Telangana United Front convener Gadar said the government was interested not in people's welfare but in the welfare of corporate companies. He threatened to launch an agitation to prevent the government from handing over tourism properties to private firms.

TDP leader and former tourism minister Peddi Reddy said that during his tenure, though there was a proposal to involve private companies, he rejected it.
