Taking on BJP for not making power available in Uttar Pradesh during its three time-rule, Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav on Sunday promised 24-hour electricity for the state after a year.
"As far as availability of power is concerned, what has BJP done in this regard in its three times rule? Our government will give 24 electricity in the state after a year," Yadav said while addressing partymen on Republic Day after hoisting the national flag at SP headquarters in Lucknow.
He said the BJP and BSP were equally responsible for power crisis as their governments did nothing to generate power in the state.
Trying to woo Muslims, Yadav said they were with the party as the party stood for them.
"They always voted for SP as the party stood for them. In Congress regime, riots took place in Meerut, Moradabad and other places and hundreds of Muslims died. In Modi's regime, Muslims were brutally killed.
"The Muzaffarnagar riots were unfortunate but SP government controlled them within two days," he said, adding that the government had disbursed over Rs 110 crores to the victims, which was never done by any government earlier.
Ridiculing BJP leaders, Yadav said when he was Defence Minister, he visited the India-Pakistan border and a befitting reply was given to Pakistan's misdemeanour.
Defending party workers, Yadav came down heavily on the media alleging that it has been making mountain out of a molehill, and appealed to party workers to remain disciplined, especially as the party was in power.
Asking partymen to shun differences, Yadav said if anyone had any problem they should raise voice within the party and should not make it public.
