Lucknow: The Samajwadi Party on Tuesday warned it would launch a statewide protest in the event of an increase in the prices of petroleum products.
Addressing a meeting of the Samajwadi Party's youth cells, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav said a bandh could also be organised in Uttar Pradesh if the prices of diesel and petrol were hiked.
He appealed to workers to make successful the rally sponsored by the party in the state capital on June 13 to protest against rising prices of essential commodities.
Yadav told them to remain united and give a befitting reply to those who were launching attacks on the Samajwadi Party.
Referring to today's rally by the Janmorcha led by former prime minister V P Singh, he said his party was being targeted from all directions. Ridiculing the rally, he said the crowds had actually been brought in on payment.
He called on the workers to popularise the welfare measures taken by the government for the people, especially the Muslim community.
Yadav said the power situation in the state was better than that in many states and hoped it would improve further from next month.
