Days after he allegedly rammed his luxury car into a two-wheeler, killing a woman, accused in the BMW hit-and-run case and son of a Shiv Sena politician — Mihir Shah — has been sent to police custody till July 16. The absconding accused was arrested by the Mumbai Police on Tuesday.
According to sources, the police demanded the custody of the accused in order to probe who helped him in destroying the evidence after committing the crime.
In addition to this, the police have also learnt that the accused chopped off his hair and shaved his beard in the car to avoid getting identified.
The police is demanding Mihir Shah’s custody on the following grounds:
- Tried to destroy the evidence after committing the crime
- Who helped him escape
- Need to check details regarding driving license and ownership of the vehicle
Preliminary investigations showed that the luxury car driven by main accused Mihir Shah rammed into a two-wheeler from behind in Mumbai’s Worli area on Sunday morning, resulting in the death of Kaveri Nakhwa (45), who was riding pillion, while her husband Pradeep survived with injuries.
Shinde Assures Strict Action Against Guilty
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday assured strict action against the guilty in the BMW case and announced Rs 10 lakh aid for the victim’s family. The Chief Minister’s action came amid the ongoing criticism that the key accused is the son of the Shiv Sena leader, Rajesh Shah.
“The government will not support any culprit in this case. We stand with the family of the victim. The government will provide any financial support the family needs.” the Chief Minister said.
Rajesh Shah, who was the deputy leader of the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena in Palghar, was also arrested on Sunday in connection to the hit-and-run case in Worli involving his son, Mihir Shah.
