CHENNAI: It’s something that’s straight out of your average Kollywood flick, except this time it was the cops who found the killers first. After four men slit the throat of a man, who had an altercation with them, and threw his body across the railway track near Vyasarpadi station to make it look like a suicide/accident, sleuths from the GRP smelt a rat and apprehended the foursome within 48 hours. What was the give away? A cut injury found on the victim’s neck became the vital clue for the cops to crack the case in record time. “It is a classic case of an attempt to disguise murder as a hit and run or a suicide case on the railway track,” R Sekar, ADGP, Government Railway Police (GRP) said.According to V Ponramu, DSP - GRP, “If somebody is committing suicide, their body would be cut into two pieces. But here, the cut injury was inconsistent with the rest,” he underscored. On investigation, this is what the cops found: Ayyanar, a resident of that area had an altercation with Lawrence at JJ Nagar in North Chennai, on Sunday. When Lawrence told his brother Karthik, he allegedly gathered his friends and set out for revenge. Along with Viji, Nagoor Meeran and Napoleon, allegedly took Ayyannar to a wine shop, and got him intoxicated. Police added that much later, they loaded the drunk man into an autorickshaw and headed towards Vyasarpadi. On the way the men are believed to have overpowered him and killed him by slitting his throat with a knife. They then dumped his body on the railway track near the busy Vysarpadi station, where all the trains that have to reach Central Station have to pass through. The police rounded them up on suspicion. Further interrogation brought the gory details to light. While Viji, Nagoor Meeran and Napolean were arrested, Karthik surrendered at the Egmore Court. Police said, Karthik is a history sheeter, who was allegedly involved in the murder of MGR’s foster son Vijayan in 2008.
